My first month in the “Do ESC” project

About me.

My name is Rugayya Gulverdiyeva.  I am 22 years old and i am from Azerbaijan.  I graduated from ecological engineering. My hobbies are going out with friends, playing volleyball, camping, running, exploring new places and cultures. In my spare time, I plan little trips for myself. I like to explore new places and meet new people from different cultures. My other hobbies are reading, traveling, painting, and take photos. I love colours. I calm down when I drawing. I want to spend my life studying, learning, and developing myself. I want to develop myself and increase my knowledge and skills through this program. Learning about different cultures and enhancing my experiences is one of my main goals. This way, I believe that I will explore myself better and make better decisions for my future. I want to develop my volunteering skills.

My activities.

I came to Italy on July 16, 2022 for the European Solidarity Corp project. I will be volunteering in Torre del Greco, Italy for a year. I have already completed 1 month here. I am very happy to be here. I would like to tell about my favourite things in here. For instance, My favourite dishes are Azerbaijani dishes. but after tasting Italian food, I changed my mind.

First of all, I must say that Torre Del Greco is a beautiful city.  I loved it, for example, the nature, the people and even the food. The weather is so beautiful, the food is so delicious that I fell in love with this cute city.❤️ I think it will be a great success for me to volunteer here. I feel very lucky to be here. I started exploring Torre del Greco in the days I first arrived. Torre del Greco, city, western Campania  region, southern Italy. It lies at the southwestern foot of Mount Vesuvius. It is located on the Bay of Naples and is a southeastern suburb of Naples. Two-thirds destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 1631, Torre del Greco was rebuilt on the solidified lava. It suffered further damage in volcanic eruptions of 1737, 1794, and 1861 and during an earthquake of 1857. Essentially a maritime town, it is popular as a bathing resort, and many of its inhabitants are engaged in seafaring and fishing. Industrial development is slight, but the city is known for its craftsmanship in coral and cameo work and has a school of coral carving and a coral museum.

I think volunteering is very important. Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person ‘s time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good. The effects of volunteering can range from many helpful characteristics. From helping those in need, giving back to the community, working for worthwhile causes, and overall helping someone with their health, mentally and physically. Giving to others can also help protect your mental and physical health. It can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose.

“DO ESC” is the European Solidarity Corps Volunteering Project of “Torre dei Giovani” NGO. Mainly, the topics of the project are: citizenship and democratic participation, community development, education and training.

The project focuses on the education and inclusion of youth with few opportunities, offering them support.

With the Associazione Eco Culturale, we visited Mount Vesuvius for the first time. Vesuvius active volcano that rises above the Bay of Naples on the plain of Campania in southern Italy.

With the Associazione Eco Culturale, we have carried out clean-up work to protect the coast and shores. We cleaned paper, plastic, metal and other waste thrown into the sea and the seashore. I think this will be a good message to people not to pollute the beaches or the environment. Plastic pollution is different from paper or food waste because it never fully decomposes, or breaks down into pieces that can be reused by nature. Instead, plastic often ends up in water, where it releases toxic chemicals and can be mistaken for food. In a study conducted by the journal Science, scientists estimate that 8.8 million tons of plastic enter the ocean every year.

On June 28, we organised a party to promote our country with disabled people.  We showed national dances of our country and danced with people. It was extremely enjoyable.

On June 30 we met our Kenyan friends. We took some things to them. They invited us their party. The party was perfect. We tasted Italian, Mexican,  and Greek traditional foods. All of them are very delicious.🤤

And 2 July we went to Area naturale Baia di leranto with Fondalicampania Aps. Ohh the nature was perfect.

Last week has been a week i will never forget.  I had a lot of fun at the Summer Camp I attended, met new people, and learned new knowledge.  These are all very valuable to me.  We spent fun and unforgettable days together.  Meeting new people and having fun with them is quite interesting. We have been to several trainings.  In training, we mainly learned information about organic and non-organic products.

We discussed how important organic products are and which products are harmful to  human health. I think these are important issues. At the same time, we learned information about the inflated prices of some products. The professor advised us to be careful when buying products. We went to the sea at the same time.  We cleaned up the garbage thrown into the sea, I think this will be a small message for people. We must do everything we can to avoid polluting the environment.

I felt excited because I met new people.  We spent a fun and interesting day together.  I was very happy to be a volunteer in this camp.❤️
